Yaswanth526
Mumbai school cricketer Pranav Dhanawade smashed the record books today when he became the first batsman to score 1000 runs in an innings for KC Gandhi School against Arya Gurukul during the H.T. Bhandari Cup inter-school cricket tournament organised by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). After lunch, Dhanawade, who had set his sights on 1000 after finishing unbeaten on 652 yesterday, made rapid progress, moving on to 974 not out as his team reached 1400. Thereafter, it was a breeze as Dhanwade blazed his way to the milestone Dhanawade, the son of an auto-rickshaw driver, had broken the record for the highest individual score in any class of cricket yesterday when he reached 652 not out. The record was earlier held by Arthur Collins, who had scored 628 not out in a Junior House Match in June, 1899 in England. But Dhanawade was not done. He continued to lead the charge for his side and when he reached 804 not out, KC Gandhi reached 1148/2. That was by far the highest team score. They had surpassed Victoria's 1107 against New South Wales back in in 1926. This is not the first time a Mumbai batsman has shattered world records in the city's hallowed 'maidans'. In December 2010, former India Test batsman Wasim Jaffer's newphew Armaan Jaffer, had smashed 473 in the under-14 Giles Shield to surpass Sarfaraz Khan's 439 scored in 2009-10. Armaan's record was broken by Prithvi Shaw when he hammered 546 in 2013. The recent spate of record-breaking is bound to revive memories of two more junior cricketers, who were busy stitching up a massive 664-run partnership for Shardashram Vidyamandir in February 1988 in a Harris Shield match. Both batsmen Vinod Kambli (349) and Sachin Tendulkar (326) turned out to be pretty successful over the next two decades.
