Mahela Jayawardene has announced he will retire from Test cricket following the series against South Africa and Pakistan. Jayawardene's last four Tests will be in Sri Lanka - the Tests against South Africa will begin from July 16 and July 24, followed by the two-match series against Pakistan in August.

The former Sri Lanka captain has said he will continue playing in ODIs.

"It was not an easy decision to make given that it has been a great privilege and honour representing my country during the past 18 years, but I believe this is the right time," Jayawardene stated in a release.

Jayawardene made his debut for Sri Lanka against India in August 1997 and scored 66 as his team piled on a record 952 runs in Colombo. He has played 145 Tests, scoring 11493 runs at an average of 50.18 with 33 hundreds.
